It works alongside boys, men, families, and entire communities to challenge and shift the deep-seated attitudes and norms that drive the HIV epidemic and Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).
The Wozani Nonke programme recognizes that the fight against these scourges is interconnected. To build a society that chooses respect, responsibility, and care, we must engage everyone, from young boys to adult men and the families that support them.
The Wozani Nonke programme provides a 24/7 Free Counselling Helpline (call 069 691 5778) for immediate support and connects individuals to Social Workers via WhatsApp or even a direct call.
A Movement with Seven Sub-Programmes, One Goal
The programme is structured into seven specialized sub-programmes, creating a cohesive ecosystem of support and prevention. Each sub-programme is tailored to a specific audience, ensuring that everyone in the community has a role to play in ending HIV and GBVF. These programmes are powered by our Department of Social Development which are Social and Behavioural Change and Victim Empowerment Programmes.
• Boys Championing Change: This initiative focuses on engaging boys and young teens early. It fosters healthy ideas about manhood, respect, and consent before harmful norms can take root, aiming to raise the next generation of champions for equality.
• Men Championing Change: This programme mobilises adult men to become role models and active allies. It challenges harmful masculinities and encourages men to model healthy relationships, standing firmly against violence in their homes and communities.
• The ROCK Leadership Programme: Designed to build resilient, values-driven young leaders, this programme equips them with the confidence, character, and skills to stand firm against risk and lead positive change among their peers.
• Families Matter Programme: Recognizing the vital role of the family unit, this sub-programme strengthens parent-child communication. It equips caregivers with practical skills to guide their children through adolescence and reduce engagement in risk behaviours.
• Community Capacity Enhancement (CCE): This component is dedicated to building the knowledge, skills, and systems of community leaders and structures. By strengthening local capacity, the programme ensures that prevention efforts are sustained and effective.
• YOLO — You Only Live Once: A vibrant and engaging youth platform, YOLO uses media, dialogue, and digital content to empower young people to make informed, healthy choices about relationships, sex, and their futures.
• Chommy: Everyone needs a trusted friend. This friendly peer-support component connects young people to reliable information, services, and support, ensuring they always have a "chommy" to turn to.
Join this Movement for Change
The Wozani Nonke programme is more than a campaign; it is a movement. By addressing the complex drivers of HIV and GBVF through a community-wide, multi-generational approach, Isizinda Sempilo is changing people's lives for the better.
The community is invited to join the movement.
